Open Awareness Meditation

In this hour long meditation we practice an exercise to sensitize us to the contrast between holding our attention on a particular object and allowing it to be open and free. This exercise of relaxing the grip of our attention from particular objects (thoughts, feelings and sensations) allows a freeing from identification with the mind as we come to know our essential nature which is always open, free and completely unaffected by the coming and going of all phenomena. This is not a state to try to hold onto throughout the day as we do need to focus our attention at times to function practically in life, but these moments of recognizing our true nature helps to liberate us from the congealed, illusory sense of self.
