FROM THE CREATOR OF THE SAMADHI FILMS
Samadhi
Nothing Outside the Sacred
… Coming Soon on Amazon and Kindle
What if the one seeking awakening is the very
identity you are being invited to see through?
Practiceless practice can reveal what no amount of striving can manufacture.
THE INVITATION
You have tried to change your life. Who is the one trying?
We spend our lives trying to complete ourselves— through achievement, relationship, knowledge, and even spiritual experience. Yet beneath the restless becoming, something has never been missing.
The search can become remarkably subtle. We learn the teachings. We glimpse stillness. Even the wish to be free can become another way of holding on to ourselves.
Samadhi: Nothing Outside the Sacred carries forward the insights of the Samadhi films and goes beyond them, drawing on Daniel Schmidt’s lived experience of meditation, self-inquiry, and years of facilitating retreats.

Who are you, before the mind supplies an answer?

WHERE THE INQUIRY GETS REAL
Even our most spiritual ideas can become hiding places.
This book stays with the questions that become urgent when teachings meet an actual life.
THE PARADOX AT THE HEART OF THE BOOK
The seeker itself becomes fuel for the fire.
The longing is not a mistake. Sādhanā gathers the scattered forces of a human being into wholehearted attention. Practice matters.
And then the inquiry turns toward the one who claims the practice. The pathless path asks for both great sincerity and the willingness to release even our idea of arriving.
“The fire is necessary until it reveals what cannot burn.”

FROM “THE WITNESS: THE LAST HOLDOUT OF THE EGO”
The mind may be quiet, but the seeker is still waiting.
This quiet territory can be discouraging for some people, especially if they have heard vivid accounts of other people’s openings. We may wonder whether we lack something, whether we are practicing incorrectly, or whether awakening is simply for someone else. There is no need to manufacture an experience to keep up with another person’s story. We can allow the quiet to be as it is, without needing to decide whether it is awakening.
We can encounter this in self-inquiry dyads. The stories have been told. The intellectual explanations no longer satisfy. We sit before our partner with very little to say. Yet somewhere within the quiet there may still be an unconscious expectation: Now something should happen.
Here, what is subtle becomes very important.
Notice the faint dissatisfaction with this moment. The almost imperceptible leaning toward the next. The hope that the silence will open into something recognizable, something that will finally confirm that we have arrived. These movements may not form complete thoughts. They can be felt as a slight holding, a waiting, a readiness to claim whatever comes next.
The mind may be quiet, but the seeker is still waiting.

FROM “THE BURDEN OF A PURPOSE”
What is my purpose?
Sometimes, after a real glimpse, the mind comes back with a question that feels almost sacred:
What is my purpose?
There is often genuine care in it at first. What matters? What can I actually give? But the question has a way of changing its clothes. Having seen that the old identity was a costume, we begin looking for the new one we are now supposed to wear. The seeker has simply found fresh work.
I have watched this turn into a kind of quiet torment. People who have touched something real start to feel they should now be able to name their life’s mission. Coaches appear, ready to help them uncover it. For a while something seems to fit—until it doesn’t. Another possibility rises, then another disappointment. The search itself becomes the evidence that they are still not quite awake enough. I am connected to my higher self. I should know. Why don’t I know?
The opening is turned against them. They have been shown a crack in the wall, and somehow they are failing to turn it into the correct biography.

FROM “INTEGRATION”
Where am I still living as though I do not know?
Some conditioning cannot be discovered in meditation because the conditions that activate it are not present there. You may sit in profound equanimity and have no idea what remains around money until financial uncertainty appears, what remains around family until you go home, or what remains around intimacy until someone touches the exact place where attachment still lives. A vasana can remain dormant for years simply because life has not yet supplied the circumstance that calls it forth.
This is one reason integration cannot be rushed. Time itself does not necessarily purify us. Life reveals us. Again and again it opens a door into a room we did not know was still there.
Integration does not mean that nothing ever catches us again. It means there is less to catch, and less willingness to remain caught. It is not the perfection of the character. It is the diminishing distance between what has been recognized and how life is actually lived.
